- Design automated workflows that manage how a document moves through its life cycle, e.g. through each stage of a project or through different departments within your organisation. Create simple workflows based on ad-hoc tasks assigned to individuals, or complex workflows that automatically move documents between different spaces or security levels as tasks are completed.

- Alfresco is a Virtual File System so its full functionality is accessible through familiar interfaces:
- Access Alfresco’s full functionality without ever leaving the Microsoft Office or OpenOffice environment with the Alfresco Office plug-in.
- Easy-to-use Web interface with a customisable homepage and dashboard for access when you are away from your own computer; or set up a portal for direct access from your company’s website.
- Mount as a shared drive, with files and folders access displayed in Windows Explorer (or similar).
- Windows Briefcase synchronisation for file portability.
- Access Alfresco via FTP or NFS (for Unix systems).
- Supports Microsoft SharePoint Protocol, providing Alfresco users with the same access from Microsoft Office while allowing you the freedom to choose your company’s hardware, database, development and operating systems.
